Welcome to the Appropriate Dispute Resolution Institute of Alberta

The ADR Institute of Alberta (ADRIA) is the Regional Affiliate of the ADR Institute of Canada. We are the membership body for mediators, arbitrators, restorative justice practitioners, and other dispute resolution professionals in Alberta.

ADRIA is a non-profit organization which trains, represents, and supports ADR professionals, and assists the people and organizations who use their services. Our focus is on providing options to resolve conflicts, address harm, or make decisions in a way that is appropriate for the situation, and that allow the people involved to avoid litigation.

Appropriate Dispute Resolution (ADR)

Appropriate Dispute Resolution (ADR) describes techniques and processes outside traditional litigation that are usually entered into voluntarily by parties wanting to resolve a dispute. These processes can include negotiation, mediation, arbitration, restorative justice and conflict coaching.

If you are interested in becoming a Mediator or Arbitrator, ADRIA is responsible for recommending candidates who wish to apply for the national designation of Qualified Mediator (Q.Med), Qualified Arbitrator (Q. Arb), Chartered Mediator (C.Med), and Chartered Arbitrator (C.Arb) to the ADR Institute of Canada. The designations are internationally recognized and indicate that the practitioners have met a certain level of experience and skill in their field.
