Biography
Pete Desrochers is one of Canada’s Chartered Mediators and Certified Mediator in the United States. He has completed over 1,300 mediations covering four continents. His portfolio of high-profile mediations included working with the U.S. soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan and Germany; a firefighters’ labor dispute, a wrongful death suit, several trade agreements between Asian countries, the alleged kidnapping of a child to Japan during a custody battle and even several mediations around the murder of a celebrity in Atlanta.
Pete is the founder of the mediation firm called “The Negotiators” in Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Ft. McMurray, Saskatoon, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami and in Atlanta Georgia, where several years ago it was named one of Atlanta’s top 10 Small Businesses of the Year.
He is also the Executive Director of the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society, a federally registered charity with the mandate to educate Albertans on various forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution and make them more available to the general public.
Pete was formerly with AGT/TELUS where he worked for 15 years as corporate spokesman and chief government liaison.
Pete believes that most parties tend to overestimate the strength of their positions and that facts don’t cease to exist because they are ignored. He stresses that nothing need be totally lost. If you have the courage, the humility and patience, you can undo a lot more than you might ever imagine and retrieve things of great value you thought were lost.
