Biography
I currently offer services in Arbitration in the following areas:
•All aspects of family, separation, divorce, including custody, access, determining incomes, child and spousal support and property and financial matters including division of family businesses/farms etc.
•Child inclusive med/arb – interviewing children and bringing their voice back to parents to the extend the child want to share and the parents are ready to hear their views.
•Trauma informed mediation involving providing a safe place/accommodation for issues of abuse, domestic violence, mental health, diversity, discrimination and minorities etc.
•Elder mediation–assisting families with aging parents, caretaking, placement, costs and property,
•Child welfare mediation-assisting families in conflict with child welfare in a safe, respectful, culturally, and spiritually sensitive manner.
Any inquires for arbitration outside of the above areas will be considered on an individual basis.
I have been a practicing lawyer for 33 years and a collaborative lawyer for almost 20 years. I am the managing partner in my firm of 7 in Sylvan Lake, AB. I audited my first arbitration course in 1987 while taking my Master’s in Law at the University of London in England and have been involved in and taking courses in med/arb and related areas over the years since that time.
I have taken trainings related to various areas and aspects of arbitration through LESA [Legal Education Society of Alberta], LRCY [Legal Representation for Children and Youth], AFMS [Family Mediation Society of Alberta], FMS [Family Mediation Canada], ADRIA [Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Alberta], CFS [Child and Family Services], Collaborative Associations of Alberta and Central Alberta and the ICCFL [International Center for Children and Family Law] among others in the following areas.
•Collaborative law – interest-based negotiation, active listening etc.
•Interviewing and representing children using various tools, child development, trauma, brain architecture and injury, addictions, parenting, and child centered mediation.
•Numerous courses on arbitration including, family, divorce, children, elders, parenting coordination, financial and corporate aspects of separation and trauma informed med/arb.
Since 2000 I have practiced primarily in the following areas.
•Divorce, Family and Children’s law since 2000.
•Child welfare law, representing children.
•Adoption and grandparents’ rights, and
•Some corporate, real estate, wills and estates, personal injury and labour law.
I have practiced in the following other areas during my career:
•International Commercial Litigation while practicing in New York City in the USA.
•Commercial litigation in Ontario.
•Child Welfare litigation in Ontario.
