An ADRIA Event in partnership with FOAJ
MONEY & CONFLICT
It should come as no surprise, especially so soon after the holiday season, that money woes can be the cause of marital and family stress. Unemployment or poor spending habits can exacerbate the situation. One can easily conclude that Money & Conflict are synonymous, and that this reality extends well beyond just the family unit. Following a brief overview from ADRIA`s Executive Director, ADRIA and the FOAJ are pleased to present two speakers this month that will offer their experience, insights and potential resources to better understand the family money & conflict dynamic. What skills or resources might be available to you when assisting families though these difficult conversations or decisions? Come enjoy this networking opportunity with colleagues and guests.
Our first speaker will be Krista Rumberg. Krista attended the ADR Symposium in Edmonton last May and has taken an interest in the ADR community. As a mortgage broker, she has focussed her own practice on families facing separation and divorce, and walking her clients through the complexities of restructuring their mortgages and finances to retain the marital home, often with the best interest of their children in mind. Knowing that life isn’t always easy, particularly at the end of a relationship, Krista has dedicated herself to helping people navigate all possible mortgage options when facing separation and divorce. Specialty spousal buyout programs, for example, can enable one spouse to ‘purchase’ the matrimonial home from the other, while taking greater advantage of the home`s equity than many lending institutions might offer. Krista believes that Knowledge is Power, and will share her personal experiences in dealing with families in conflict. Attendees will gain insights into approaches, tools and resources that would be useful in their own ADR practice, and might be attractive to their clients.
Our second speaker is Manraj Waraich from the Credit Counselling Society - a non-profit service helping individuals and families find their best options to deal with their debt and get their finances back on track. Manraj will present Financial 1St Aid for Mediation Professionals, assisting us all to learn how financial stress impacts our clients, to recognize the signs of financial stress, and to know what strategies and resources might be available to assist them.
Krista Rumberg, AMP is a Spousal Buyout Specialist and Mortgage Broker with Axiom Mortgage Solutions. She takes great pride in knowing everything she possibly can about her field and the specialized "separating" clientele she serves. Krista resides in in Spruce Grove Alberta, and recently attended the Alberta ADR Symposium to learn more about the ADR community and family restructuring. Krista is also a certified financial specialist with the Collaborative Divorce Alberta Association. She looks forward to sharing her experiences and offering new resources.
Manraj Waraich is the Credit Counselling Society’s Financial Educator for Edmonton. She has over 7 years of experience in community work including 3 years with the Credit Counselling Society. She completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree through the University of Alberta’s School of Business. She completed her Certified Educator in Personal Finance Designation in August 2017. Manraj is passionate about inspiring others to better themselves and reach their full potential. She enjoys building connections throughout the community while making a meaningful impact.
