An ADRIA Event in partnership with FOAJ
National Defence - Integrated Conflict & Complaint Management Services
Please join us as as we resume our luncheons after the summer break!
ADRIA & FOAJ are pleased to feature Heather Ehlers from the Department of National Defence as our September luncheon speaker.
In 2018, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Department of National Defence (DND) launched an integrated method of dispute resolution for members that has simplified access and management of conflict and complaints. The program brings together former recourse structures of Harassment Prevention, Human Rights and Diversity complaints, CAF Grievance Authority and Alternative Dispute Resolution Services into a single access point for users.
With 17 Conflict and Complaint Management Services (CCMS) centres across the country, teams of Agents, Practitioners and Educators work to support both members and chain of command. Early, local and informal resolution is at the heart of service delivery together with supportive procedural guidance for rights-based processes. This presentation explores the fundamental aspects of this innovative new model of conflict management and its implications.
Heather Ehlers has been leading conflict management and employee support initiatives for the last 11 years in both the non-profit and government systems. She is experienced in program development and administration for organizations supporting community, civil and employment-related disputes. Heather has an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Masters Degree in Conflict Analysis and Management, Certificate in Leadership from the Government of Alberta and a Certificate in ADR from the Canada International Institute of Applied Negotiation.
In her current role with Department of National Defence, Heather is Regional Manager for the delivery of Conflict and Complaint Management Services (CCMS) for Western and Northern Canada. She oversees the operations service points in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Cold Lake and Esquimalt.
When she is not at work, you can find Heather spending time with her family, hiking in Edmonton’s beautiful river valley, or volunteering with her community league.
