Are you an experienced and highly motivated Family Mediator skilled at working with families seeking resolution to parenting, guardianship, and child support disputes? Come join Business and Resolution Services in a rewarding one year temporary full-time position with the possibility of extension, located in Edmonton.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include:
MEDIATION SERVICE DELIVERY
• Screen and assess cases to determine if family mediation is appropriate
• Conduct pre-mediation sessions with each party to evaluate capacity for mediation
• Develop an effective approach to the mediation process
• Inform clients of mediation process, options, and appropriate resources
• Enter into service agreements with clients
• Help parties address needs and interests, focusing on best interests of the children
• Work effectively with other professionals
• Facilitate and draft written summaries of agreements reached in mediation
• Assist parties in adjusting to new family structure and circumstances
CONSULTATION & PUBLIC RELATIONS
• Consult with Family Court Counsellors, Caseflow Coordinators and other department, government and community agencies regarding appropriateness of mediation as a means dispute resolution
• Assume various positions on government and community-based agencies, boards or groups to provide links between Business and Resolution Services and the community
• Engage in peer consultation and co-mediation as a means of maintaining and enhancing professional standards and performance levels.
The ideal candidate will possess:
• Excellent conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation skills including multi-party mediation
• Strong assessment skills to support mediator and practitioner development
• Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to staff
• Strong organizational skills to handle the volume and complexity of work
• Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
• Ability to work with sensitive and complex matters involving families and children
Qualifications
A minimum of 180 hours of Conflict Management training, of which at least 40 hours must be in the area of family mediation. Please clearly indicate the specific courses and number of hours of training you have completed in your resume.
Completion of one of the following is also a requirement:
• Related University Degree (Dispute Resolution, Sociology, Psychology, Law, etc.) and 2 years related experience;
• Bachelor of Social Work and some related experience;
• Master of Social Work;
• Related Diploma and 3 years related experience;
• Related Certificate and 4 years related experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with significant knowledge, supplemented by experience, of theoretical models, specialized techniques, and practical and theoretical procedures related to mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
Candidates who are successful following the interview, may be invited to participate in an assessed mediation ‘role play’ as part of the selection process.
Salary
$1,278.82 to $1,653.12 biweekly ($33,377.202 to $43,146.432 yearly)
Notes
The Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, and the Provincial Court of Alberta (the Courts) each have their own policy aside from the Government of Alberta proof of COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. The Courts’ COVID Vaccination Policy requires all staff to be fully vaccinated to access courtrooms and court workplaces in the Alberta courthouses effective November 1, 2021.
This is a part-time position, working hours 18.125.
This is a one year temporary position located in Edmonton.
